NASA's SpaceX Crew-13: Falcon 9 Rocket Liftoff and First Stage Landing

NASA's SpaceX Crew-13: Falcon 9 Rocket Liftoff and First Stage Landing

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched Crew-13 to the International Space Station aboard their Crew Dragon spacecraft at 11:10 a.m. Eastern Time (ET) from Cape Canaveral in Florida.

Crew-13: NASA astronauts Jessica Watkins and Luke Delaney, Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov of Russia

They will spend the next several months in orbit, helping us learn how to live in space while running scientific experiments intended to help make life better back on Earth.

The Dragon spacecraft supporting this mission previously flew the Ax-4, mission to and from the International Space Station. This was the third flight for the first stage supporting this mission, which previously launched Crew-12 and one Starlink mission. Following stage separation, Falcon 9’s first stage landed on Landing Zone 40 (LZ-40) at Cape Canaveral.

What's Up for October 2026? Skywatching Tips from NASA | JPL

What's Up for October 2026: Skywatching Tips from NASA | JPL

Saturn takes center stage, a meteor shower lights up the sky, and the Moon visits the Seven Sisters.

On October 4, Saturn reaches opposition, giving skywatchers one of the year's best opportunities to see the ringed planet. In addition, learn about a 10-sided atmospheric wave encircling Saturn's south pole that was recently revealed by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope.

The Orionid meteor shower peaks October 21-22. Debris from Halley's Comet produces the meteors, but this year, a bright Moon will obscure some of the fainter streaks. The best viewing chances will likely be the hours before dawn, after the Moon sets.

Then, on October 27-28, look east in the evening for the Moon passing close to the Pleiades, also known as the Seven Sisters. The star cluster is visible to the unaided eye and even more spectacular through binoculars.

Expedition 75 flight engineer and NASA astronaut Anil Menon: "Crew-13 launch as seen from their destination. Photo wizardry by Dubrov. See you soon Watty, Luke, Josh, and Sergey."

Pyotr Dubrov is an Expedition#75 flight engineer and Roscosmos cosmonaut from Russia. He captured these launch views from low Earth orbit.

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched Crew-13 to the International Space Station aboard their Crew Dragon spacecraft at 11:10 a.m. Eastern Time (ET) from Cape Canaveral in Florida. The crew then began their approximately 7-hour, 50-minute journey to the International Space Station. At the time of launch, the space station was orbiting at 17,500 miles per hour (28,200 kilometers per hour) about 263 miles over Earth, northwest of Havana, Cuba. It passed directly over NASA’s Kennedy Space Center about 1 minute, 37 seconds after launch.

Shenzhou-23 Crew Sends China National Day Greetings | China Space Station

Shenzhou-23 Crew Sends China National Day Greetings | China Space Station

The Shenzhou-23 crew on board China's orbiting Tiangong Space Station on October 1, 2026, extended their greetings to the motherland and the Chinese people in celebration of the 77th anniversary of founding of the People's Republic of China.

"While carrying out missions in space, the national flag is always with us. It constantly reminds us to keep our motherland close to our hearts and to honor our mission. What left the deepest impression on me was the enormous five-star red flag on the exterior of the space station, which I saw during the extravehicular activity. Amid the unfathomable vastness of the universe, that vibrant 'Chinese red' instilled in me unwavering confidence and boundless strength to complete the mission, and it deepened my appreciation of the conviction and responsibility to let the five-star red flag fly high in space," said the commander Zhu Yangzhu.

"From a pilot to an astronaut, I have always worn the national flag on my chest. When I piloted a fighter jet soaring through the skies of our motherland, the flag on my chest accompanied me as I flew across the length and breadth of the country. Later, I put on a spacesuit and set off into space, yet the flag has remained in the same place on my chest, and my original aspiration to serve the country has never changed. The motherland gave me the opportunity to realize my dream of spaceflight. I will devote myself to the cause of spaceflight, serving the motherland with my youth and writing a glorious chapter through hard work," said Zhang Zhiyuan, who is undertaking his first space flight journey.

"From a police officer to an astronaut, it was my motherland that lifted me onto a farther and higher stage. Today, Hong Kong is actively aligning itself with the country's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030), integrating into and serving the overall development of the nation. I want to tell the young people of Hong Kong and Macao: dreams know no boundaries, and striving knows no distance. As long as you dare to look up and dare to strive, the motherland will lift up every dream chaser, allowing them to shine their brightest on the fertile ground of a shared home and nation," said Lai Ka-ying, who is the country's first astronaut from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, also the first payload expert flying into space among the fourth batch of astronauts.

The three astronauts were launched aboard the Shenzhou-23 spacecraft on May 24 this year. To date, they have been working in orbit for over four months.
