Camera View: Adapter Jettison Panel Separation | NASA Artemis II Orion Spacecraft

Camera View: Adapter Jettison Panel Separation  | NASA Artemis II Orion Spacecraft

A view of one of the spacecraft adapter jettison panels falling away from the Orion spacecraft’s service module, just minutes after the April 1, 2026, liftoff of the Artemis II mission from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The panels protect the spacecraft's solar array wings from the dynamic environment of ascent as the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket propels Orion into space. They are then jettisoned to allow the solar arrays to unfurl.

NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket carrying the Orion spacecraft with NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, commander; Victor Glover, pilot; Christina Koch, mission specialist; and Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut Jeremy Hansen, mission specialist onboard, was successfully launched April 1, 2026, for the Artemis II Mission from Launch Complex 39B at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

NASA’s Artemis II Mission is taking Wiseman, Glover, Koch, and Hansen on a 10-day journey around the Moon and back aboard their Orion spacecraft.
