India Celebrates First Astronaut Visit to International Space Station

Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla shared an emotional moment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, June 28, 2025, describing how seeing India's flag aboard the International Space Station (ISS) stirred deep pride. Shukla arrived at the orbital outpost Thursday, June 26, 2025, as part of the four-member Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) crew.

Modi celebrated the mission as "the successful first chapter of India's Gaganyaan dream," referencing the nation's ambitious human spaceflight program. The Ax-4 crew launched aboard a SpaceX rocket and Dragon spacecraft from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, marking another milestone for Axiom Space's commercial spaceflight operations.
