"No Place Like Home": Over 230,000 miles away | NASA Artemis II Moon Mission

This photograph, taken by the Artemis II crew from the Orion spacecraft during flight day seven of the Artemis II mission, captured the beauty of our galaxy, the Milky Way. A sweet reminder that there is no place like home. The crew was over 236,000 miles from Earth as it exited the lunar sphere of influence on its return journey that day.

In early April 2026, the Artemis II crew became the first to travel beyond the Moon in more than 50 years and traveled farther in space than humans have ever before.

Planned to launch in 2027, the Artemis III Mission will practice docking the Orion spacecraft with two lunar landers in low Earth orbit.

On future missions, including Artemis IV in 2028, landers will bring astronauts to the lunar surface. While Artemis III will not land on the Moon, it will test the complex capabilities NASA needs to return—this time to stay.
