China Long March-10 Rocket for Crewed Moon Missions: First Static Fire Test

China Long March-10 Rocket for Crewed Moon Missions: First Static Fire Test

China's Long March-10 carrier rocket, the country's new-generation crewed launch vehicle, has successfully completed the first static fire test on Aug 15, 2025, at the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site in the southern island province of Hainan, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) has announced.

The test was conducted at 15:00 Beijing Time. All seven engines of the rocket's first-stage test unit ignited simultaneously and completed multiple test procedures as planned. The test verified the simultaneous working capability of the seven parallel engines under nominal and high-power conditions. Full test data was collected.

This success follows two previous achievements: the escape flight test of the Mengzhou manned spacecraft at zero altitude in June and the comprehensive landing and takeoff verification test of the lunar lander Lanyue (which means embracing the Moon) in early August. It marks another important milestone in the development of China's crewed lunar exploration program.
