A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying the company's Dragon spacecraft is launched on NASA’s SpaceX Crew-11 mission to the International Space Station.

The Falcon 9 first stage landing back at the launch site.

The SpaceX Dragon spacecraft carrying NASA astronauts Zena Cardman and Mike Fincke, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Kimiya Yui, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Platonov of Russia, started their approximately 15-hour journey to the International Space Station on NASA’s SpaceX Crew-11 mission. Liftoff occurred at 11:43 a.m. EDT from Launch Complex 39A in Florida.

The number of crew aboard the space station will increase to 11 for a short time as Crew-11 joins NASA astronauts Anne McClain, Nichole Ayers, and Jonny Kim, JAXA astronaut Takuya Onishi, and Roscosmos cosmonauts Kirill Peskov, Sergey Ryzhikov, and Alexey Zubritsky of Russia.

NASA’s SpaceX Crew-10 will depart the space station after the arrival of Crew-11 and a handover period. Ahead of Crew-10’s return, mission teams will review weather conditions at the splashdown sites off the coast of California prior to departure from station.

During their mission, Crew-11 will conduct scientific research to prepare for human exploration beyond low Earth orbit and benefit humanity on Earth. Participating crew members will simulate lunar landings, test strategies to safeguard vision, and advance other human spaceflight studies led by NASA’s Human Research Program. The crew also will study plant cell division and microgravity’s effects on bacteria-killing viruses, as well as perform experiments to produce a higher volume of human stem cells and generate on-demand nutrients.

The mission is part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. It provides reliable access to space, maximizing the use of the station for research and development and supporting future missions beyond low Earth orbit by partnering with private companies to transport astronauts to and from the space station.

Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Kimiya Yui will serve as mission specialist for NASA’s SpaceX Crew-11 mission to the International Space Station. With 142 days in space, Crew-11 will be his second trip to the orbiting laboratory. He graduated from the School of Science and Engineering at the National Defense Academy of Japan in 1992. He later joined the Air Self-Defense Force at the Japan Defense Agency (currently Ministry of Defense). In 2008, Yui joined the Air Staff Office at the Ministry of Defense as a lieutenant colonel. Yui was selected to become an astronaut in 2009. During his previous mission, he flew as a flight engineer for Expedition 44/45 and became the first Japanese astronaut to capture JAXA’s H-II Transfer Vehicle. In addition to constructing a new experimental environment aboard Kibo, he conducted a total of 21 experiments for JAXA. In November 2016, Yui was assigned as chief of the JAXA Astronaut Group.

Kibō (Japanese: きぼう; lit. 'Hope'), also known as the Japanese Experiment Module (JEM), is a Japanese science module on the International Space Station (ISS) developed by JAXA. It is the largest single ISS module, and is attached to the Harmony module.

SpaceX Starship Static Test Fire Pre-10th Flight | Starbase Texas

This is a Starship single-engine static fire test demonstrating a complete in-space burn on Pad 1 at Starbase Texas.

Read SpaceX's Ninth Test Flight Report:

SpaceX’s Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy rocket—collectively referred to as Starship—represent a fully reusable transportation system designed to carry crew and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars and beyond. Starship is the world’s most powerful launch vehicle ever developed, capable of carrying up to 150 metric tonnes fully reusable and 250 metric tonnes expendable.

Key Starship Parameters:
Height: 123m/403ft
Diameter: 9m/29.5ft
Payload to LEO: 100–150t (fully reusable)

"Starship is essential to both SpaceX’s plans to deploy its next-generation Starship system as well as for NASA, which will use a lunar lander version of Starship for landing astronauts on the Moon during the Artemis III mission through the Human Landing System (HLS) program."

Thruster Reboost Makes 'Human Accelerometers' | International Space Station

Expedition 73 flight engineer and NASA astronaut Nichole Ayers: "Due to atmospheric drag, the International Space Station decelerates over time, which causes a loss in altitude. We have to execute a reboost in order to get back to speed and altitude. When the thrusters are firing, you can feel and see the acceleration inside the station! Ha, we had fun being human accelerometers. 😊"

Earth Aurora & Stars | International Space Station

Earth Aurora & Stars | International Space Station

Expedition 73 flight engineer and NASA astronaut Anne McClain: "As we get close to leaving the International Space Station, I find myself wanting to savor every moment and every view. None of us are guaranteed to get to do this again, and every minute spent in space is a special one. I dropped into the Cupola to look out the window and just be in the moment, not taking photos or looking for anything in particular. Well, when this view presented itself, I changed my mind . . . I had to pick up a camera to share this with all of you. Wow!"

The Expedition 73 crew is readying a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft for return to Earth while a new crew on the ground is preparing to launch aboard another Dragon to the International Space Station. Station crewmates Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, both from NASA, Takuya Onishi from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and Kirill Peskov from Roscosmos (Russia) continue packing personal items and other cargo inside the Dragon that will return them home in early August. McClain and Ayers, are being assisted by NASA Flight Engineer Jonny Kim. He is staying in space until December 2025.
