Central & Western Japan | International Space Station

Central & Western Japan | International Space Station

Expedition 73 Commander and flight engineer Takuya Onishi of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA): "I get a lot of requests to see Japan, but unfortunately, since I arrived on the ISS, I have hardly had a chance to see the archipelago clearly. The chances are surprisingly few. The most recent photo I have is this one."

Japan consists of 14,125 islands extending along the Pacific coast of Asia. The country stretches over 3,000 km (1900 mi) northeast–southwest from the Sea of Okhotsk to the East China Sea. The country's five main islands, from north to south, are Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu and Okinawa.
